Personal moments to remind us what truly matters
“In the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there was an invincible summer.” — Albert Camus
As I sit at my desk in Hamburg and reflect on my treasured summer moments in Menorca, I realize that this time, it’s not about letting go, it’s about holding on, capturing the feelings of happiness that define these special experiences. I love summer – the light, the sun, the sea.
No matter where you spend your summer—whether hiking in the mountains, lying in the grass with a good book, relaxing at home in your pajamas, or strolling barefoot along the beach—the essence of summer is unique and often hard to articulate. It’s a feeling to be lived. I’ve spent much of my time barefoot, not just on the beach, but in a variety of delightful settings. Summer is my favorite season; it allows my spirit to bask in the sun’s warm rays, and I relish the blissful laziness it brings. These sweet memories of summer prepare me for the winter ahead. For me, these summer months are like a new year’s moment — a time to reset and rejuvenate with fresh energy. Of course, it also meant spending quality time with family and friends, cooking together, playing games, reading, and enjoying morning swims.
I would love to share some of my favorite summer moments with you:
Morning Swims
We usually start our days with a swim in Sa Mesquida, enjoying the beach almost entirely to ourselves in the early hours.
Café Indulgence
Savoring croissants and caffé latte at my favorite café is always a treat.
Living life in Slow Motion
Embracing a leisurely pace, being open to surprises allows me to connect with myself and realize that life doesn’t always need to speed up.
Art and Culture
I was grateful to attend the closing day of Ursula’s exhibition in the port of Mahon. @UrsulaMascaró
Football Festivities:
One of my new experiences was watching football with friends and strangers during the European Championship.
Culinary Adventures
Cooking together has become a treasured activity. This summer, my favorite dish has been Annabel’s peach and tomato salad, paired with salt-crusted lubina that Jacqui and I prepared together. And not to forget the best comes from your own garden….. figs and lettuce….
Exploration and Discovery
At the season’s start, we embarked on excursions to Playa de Cavalleria and Ciutadella, even venturing to Lithica, a breathtaking sculptural landscape—though perhaps not ideal to visit at 2 PM in the midday heat. I would love to return for a concert there; it must be magical.
We found ourselves repeatedly drawn to Xiringuito Tirant for their delicious artichokes, patatas bravas, stunning bay views, and the warmth of the friendly staff.
Community Connections
During our first visit to the Son Blanc Farmhouse, we were so captivated by its beauty that we decided to return for their community dinner. It was a highlight of the summer, filled with engaging conversations with fascinating table neighbors

A Bittersweet Goodbye
We bid a bittersweet farewell to Zizi, a wonderful friend and yoga teacher, who left the island after many years to continue her journey in England.
Dining Delights at La Cantina
You cannot discuss summer at Illa del Rei without mentioning the extraordinary lunches at La Cantina, where our delightful hostess, Victoria, ensured that everything was perfect. Each visit was exceptional, with first-class service and arroz that was truly ‘to die for.’ The tranquil setting, combined with long lunches surrounded by family and friends, made these moments unforgettable.
Shopping Spree
No summer is complete without a bit of retail therapy. My friend discovered a gorgeous scarf, and I treated myself to a lovely summer dress at Kala

Culinary Shopping
For our culinary needs, the Peixateria in the port of Mahon was our go-to spot, and Xarcuteria es Molí in Sant Lluis was exceptional. A special shout-out to Monica, whose professionalism and friendliness enhanced our shopping experience.

Yoga Bliss
Another highlight of our summer was yoga with Marcela, Roberta, and Basco. We focused on mastering the headstand, and as the season progressed, it became clear that consistent practice makes all the difference. To paraphrase Sri K. Pattabhi Jois: “Practice, practice, practice and all is coming.” The peace and sense of accomplishment from our yoga sessions were pure bliss. And Marcela guiding us through shavasana is indeed pure bliss!
The Healing Hands of Coque Contreras have not only saved my neck, but have made me float ……..
New Passions
This summer, I also discovered a new passion for padle tennis. Together with friends, we take lessons at Padel In, Sant Lluis. Our teacher, Jemma, is amazing; we’ve learned so much and had a blast. Although Jemma is leaving the island to study in Barcelona, we will continue to enjoy this fantastic sport.
Bottom Line
This summer has been nothing short of magical, full of unforgettable moments, memories, learning and laughter. Every moment was treasured.
